Sharing the load: What’s next for AI data centres in Ontario webinar

In this webinar, MaRS & Mantle Climate discusses what AI-driven data centre growth means for Ontario’s grid, emissions, and competitiveness.

The rise of AI is fueling an escalating demand for data centers, which are required to produce the power that the AI needs. Robust and reliable data centres are fundamental to our economy, innovation, productivity and competitiveness across manufacturing, healthcare, research and more. This infrastructure is becoming just as important as energy grids and transportation networks.

But how can Ontario meet the overwhelming demand for electricity-intensive data centres without overwhelming our energy system?

Over the past year, MaRS and Mantle Climate have collaborated to get a better understanding of the growth trajectories of data centre infrastructure across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), as well as the rest of Ontario.

After 12 months of research, stakeholder workshops and high-level modelling, we are excited to share our final findings. This webinar is designed to highlight critical lessons and the strategic roadmap to optimize Ontario’s digital and energy future.

This work reflects input from 35 cross‑sector organizations, including energy providers, data centre developers, AI users, and policymakers. Building on the report’s recommendations, the webinar will focus on what has shifted since the research period, how stakeholders are already responding, and the critical decisions that will shape Ontario’s next chapter of data centre development.
